Xbox One gets third-party USB webcam support for game streaming

Microsoft continues to work to improve everything that Xbox One offers. For this reason, they announced that they are testing the support of USB cameras on the console so that players can use them in applications like Mixer and Skype.

Through a blog post on Mixer, Microsoft announced that those who have access to the Alpha level of the Xbox Insider Program can now take the USB camera they normally use on your computer and connect it to your console.

In doing so, users can use it to have video calls or stream live; that is, functions that until now were exclusive to Kinect. Of course, you should keep in mind that this option will be limited to video capture and you will need a microphone to transmit audio.

“At Mixer, we’re continuously impressed by the number of gamers embracing and enjoying the easy-to-use broadcasting that Mixer offers on Xbox One – and are equally enthusiastic about our journey ahead with fans. We’ve heard from many who have broadcasted for the very first time, as well as those who love being able to share gameplay with friends over Xbox Live regularly. One piece of feedback commonly heard is around using an existing USB webcam to share video image alongside your gameplay (similar to using the Kinect camera today),” said Josh Stain, manager of the Mixer community.

It is important to mention that this option is hardly in the testing stage. For this reason, you should keep in mind that there is a possibility that it will take a long time to debut or be canceled at some point. We will keep an eye on its evolution.

It is important to note that this is not the only novelty that is on the way to Xbox One. What we mean is that very soon players can record gameplay in 1080p, while the console will receive a new interface.
