Since its announcement during the last E3, Shenmue 3 has been written of very much. Indeed, its fundraising campaign on Kickstarter was a great success, but the Ys Net studio has, nonetheless, established a second operation to raise more funds to ensure quality development.

The Kickstarter project page informs us today some details about the game design. We know that the game scenario is finalized and the first test phases are under development. Also, the first in-game screenshots of the title have been uploaded, for finding the first rendering made with the Unreal Engine 4.

The development team, however, recalls that the rendering will have to be modified by the finalization of the title. For the moment, Ys Net is undergoing management of maps to determine their size and the number of people in it. The goal is to find the best compromise between a certain freedom of action and a certain density to avoid proposing empty environment.

The developer has written:

“In this phase of the development, the major work being done is the map testing. Map testing will define the different areas to make sure they are neither too big, nor too small to get to that Goldilocks zone. This consists of looking at the layout of a certain space, and experimenting to make necessary alterations. For example, an outside area may feel too open. That space may be reduced by 20%, and the number of people there increased from 10 to 16, to affect the proper consistency and density of the area.”

Recall that Shenmue 3 is due for release in December 2017 on PS4 and PC. Checkout the in-game screenshots of Shenmue III below:
