Nintendo might create its own controller for mobile games
Although the first mobile game of Nintendo was more of an application, the fact is it has other plans for future releases. With this in mind, the company is unconcerned by the limitations of touch screens, but does not rule out the possibility of creating their own physical controller for mobile devices.
During a meeting with investors, Shinya Takahashi, chief executive of Nintendo, was asked about the possibility of taking physical controls to mobile devices. “Physical controllers for smart device applications are available in the market and it is possible that we may also develop something new by ourselves.”
Thus, although the company statements leave open some opportunity for creating controllers for mobile devices, this is no guarantee of anything. Previously, Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo of America, said the company wants to “create new compelling experiences that leverage what smart devices do best.” This would allow us to think that the plan is to develop games that do not require controller to play, because to do so it would reduce the size of the potential market.
Then Takahashi suggested that Nintendo will continue to focus on developing for devices that do not use controllers. “On the other hand, I believe Nintendo’s way of thinking is to look at whether action games are really not impossible (without a physical controller for smart device applications) to create and how we can make it happen to create such a game.”
For action games on quality, Takahashi said, “I think we will make applications, and not just action games, in consideration of what best embodies ‘Nintendo-like’ applications, including applications for everyone from children to seniors.”
According to Nintendo, it plans to launch about 5 games for mobile phones before the end of March 2017. Although there is no information about them, we know that two games will be based on Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing.
