10 years ago, Valve first announced Half-Life 2: Episode 3, the expansion that would close 3 content promised of the game. After a decade, players are still waiting.
So, Polygon recalled that on May 24, 2006, Valve confirmed that it worked on the third update for Half-Life 2 to mark the end of a trilogy previously announced. At that time, the company promised that everything would end before Christmas 2007.
Although for a while Gabe Newell and Valve were happy to share information about Half-Life 2: Episode 3, over time this changed. By the posture “We are still working on the expansion” to “we have nothing to say about Half-Life”, the opinion of the head of the company was transformed, and the last time he talked about was in 2009, noting that the content still is developing.
However, the time has passed, and the last thing he saw for the fans was Half-Life 2: Episode Two in 2007, and it seems that there will never be Episode Three, as Marck Laidlwa, the developer who wrote the previous games, retired from the company last January after 18 years in Valve career that began with Half-Life in 1998.
So, it seems we’ll never see Half-Life 2: Episode 3, and although there are rumors that suggest that the series will jump to HTC Vive, nothing is certain at this time. For now, perhaps we should wait, or just resign ourselves.
