The license of Darksiders is returned to the center stage with a HD reissue of the second component on PS4 and Xbox One. Nordic Games has said it is “a beginning”, with reference to the development of a third episode anticipated by fans since the closure of its former publisher, THQ.

Since the closure of THQ and Vigil Games, the license of Darksiders came close to a permanent end. However, the publisher Nordic Games has recovered operation of the series and has commissioned the studio Gunfire Games to develop Darksiders 2: Deathinitive Edition, an HD reissue of the title of 2012 on PS4 and Xbox One.

While this edition is now available, the question remains whether Darksiders 3 is still planned? Reinhard Pollice, executive producer at Nordic Games, said on the Steam forums that “Darksiders 2 Deathinitive Edition was just the beginning. Since we acquired the franchise we were looking for options for doing a DS3. The remaster was just a way to get some spotlight on the franchise again, reactivate the community and have a better starting position for DS3” he also added.

Now it only remains to wait for an official confirmation of this third episode, featuring the third horseman of the Apocalypse.

The aforementioned Darksiders 2 Deathinitive edition has recently been published and next to the main game it also features all of the content as well as various improvements and embellishments, including a 1080p resolution, increased resolution of the textures and new lightning and rendering options. In addition, Nordic Games took all the feedback of the players and they are also working on balancing and solving the bugs.
