This third installment will also be numbered as the third development by Gearbox, since The Pre-Sequel was created by 2K Australia. In its panel in Boston, president and CEO of the studio, Randy Pitchford, has given this confirmation:

“Obviously, there is going to be another Borderlands,” he said, before telling “We don’t even know if we’re going to call it that” joked the head of Gearbox.

As for the organization of the development team, it is known that the art director of Battleborn Scott Kester (one of his most outstanding plots) will occupy the same position in the development of this third installment numbered and fourth in total. Mikey Neumann, Borderlands writer and one portion of the sequel (besides being Chief Creative Champion in Battleborn) will reprise his role as scriptwriter, and also dub the character of Scooter.

The Neumann himself spoke of a possible character that could be included (or not). We talk about Scooper, the name given to the son of his beloved Scooter.

The Gearbox studio also informed fans that we will find a number of easter eggs in Borderlands (already published to date) in Battleborn. While the downloadable content of the latter will be carried out by Borderlands 3.
