Take-Two Boss Doesn’t Expect PS5 and Xbox Scarlett To Be “Particularly Disruptive”
Take-Two, the parent company of Rockstar Games and 2K Games, recently held a financial meeting through which we were able to discover many interesting details. To begin, the CEO explained the company’s position on subscription services and on Google Stadia. Then, he revealed that there are some games not yet announced in production. Now, we find out that he also spoke about the next-gen consoles, or PS5 and Xbox Scarlett.
The publisher is obviously very attentive to the next-gen console timing, which always influences the release dates of new projects, but at the same time it doesn’t see that PS5 and Xbox Scarlett as being “particularly disruptive”. “We’re pretty fluent with technology at this point,” he told investors. He admitted that in the past the new consoles have put some companies in difficulty, but nowadays the generation jump is of less impact.
“I don’t expect it will happen here. We’ll be mindful of the change. But it wouldn’t be determinative of what we would do.” According to Take-Two, therefore, the move to PS5 and Xbox Scarlett will not be as strong as the transition from PS2 to PS3, when, due to the sharp change in architecture, many developers have struggled to find their own position in the market.
Tell us, what do you think? Based on what we know so far of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Scarlett, do you believe that the next-gen console will allow us to get started with new experiences, or will we have “only” visually more beautiful games than those of this generation?
