Phil Spencer: Original Xbox backward compatibility coming this year
There are many gamers excited about the backward compatibility of Xbox One with Original Xbox, however, Microsoft has not shared many details on the subject. Fortunately, Phil Spencer came out to give a glimmer of hope, mentioning that the function is about to debut.
The Xbox boss commented that they are “really close” to launch this feature. “I have a little dashboard I go to and I can see all the games [and] where they are in getting approvals in the pipeline. I know the games that are coming for the original Xbox but I don’t think we’ve announced them all. We have to do this in partnership with partners, but we’re still on track. I feel really good. The games look great,” Spencer said at the Brazil Game Show to GameSpot.
In addition, Spencer hopes that this feature will be available before the end of the year, just as planned. And if that was not enough, he mentioned that there are details about the backward compatibility on Xbox One X that have not yet been revealed.
“There’s some stuff we’re going to talk about in that space in terms of how compatibility’s going to work on [Xbox One] X specifically that I think people will find pretty interesting,” Spencer declared.
At the moment, Microsoft has only confirmed Crimson Skies and Fuzion Frenzy as backward compatible titles.
Microsoft mentioned that they will have a collection that will be revealed later, although players should not expect as many backward compatible games of the Xbox 360.
