Sea of Thieves Reaches 4 Million Players on Xbox One and PC
Sea of Thieves, as it seems, was a success for Microsoft. The game has not only succeeded in selling a lot, but it is also the most successful new IP for this generation’s Xbox platform.
As confirmed in an interview with GameInformer by the head of the studio Rare Craig Duncan, Sea of Thieves has reached 4 million players on Xbox One and PC, confirming the new IP most successful on the Microsoft console.
“Sea of Thieves is the most successful new IP of this generation for Xbox and we’ve got four million players, our average playtime is like 22 hours, we have people who have already put in more than 1,000 hours, and five percent of all Sea of Thieves players have streamed the game, all of which we’ve talked about before,” says Craig Duncan, reiterating that the title’s success has surpassed sales expectations of Microsoft itself.
When Sea of Thieves was launched, Microsoft initially reported 2 million players within the week of launch. The total number now is over 4 million and the average playing time for these players is 22 hours, which is a lot for a game that has been criticized for lack of content.
During the same interview, moreover, the head of the Rare studio confirmed that Sea of Thieves will receive three new expansions not yet announced by 2018, in addition to the already confirmed Cursed Sails and Forsaken Shores, the two DLC will arrive in July and September respectively.
