SIE Santa Monica Explains Why God of War Has RPG Elements
We are within a month of the arrival of God of War and as the launch date expected by millions of players approaches, SIE Santa Monica reveals more information that only makes the new game of Kratos more desirable. After the celebration of an event for media, the development team offered more information about the title and explained the reason why we will find more RPG elements in the adventure.
In an interview for Geek Culture, Aaron Kaufman, the head of the strategy for the community of SIE Santa Monica, spoke about the RPG elements that await us in God of War and the reasons that led the team to integrate this type of characteristics.
According to Kaufman, the main reason why the new title of Kratos has some sections inspired by the RPG genre is to provide the greatest amount of options to the player: “Past God of War games have been kind of a one-way street in combat and the kind of way you can choose to play. We gave you a choice by having the Cestus or the Blades, a single track weapon that you could switch out anytime and have different abilities about it. Now, with more RPG-like elements, you have armour, your axe, you have different ways to upgrade each of those. You have your shield, the melee, you have Atreus. All of these things can be upgraded whether in their abilities or giving them new elemental effects.”
Finally, the executive said that the idea of SIE Santa Monica during the development of God of War has been to offer more options to the player and that these generate a strategic environment that was not present in previous installments: “I think, for the team, it just came down to, let’s give the players more strategic choice, how they want to play the game.”
God of War will release on April 20 on PS4 exclusively.
