Resident Evil 7’s development costs increased due to VR support

Capcom, after filing their tax results, has awarded a special round of questions and answers to their investors, explaining how much was the budget allocated to Resident Evil 7 that eventually increased following the decision to make it compatible with virtual reality, which can be enjoyed by the users of PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR.

“Certain things were required in making the game VR-compatible, such as graphic needs that are more complex than before, thus there was an increase in development investment,” was explained by Capcom. Interestingly, some days ago, one of the directors of the company said the title would not to be able to play in that mode.

Despite the increase, the Japanese company claims that with its own tools, these increases have not been particularly painful for the coffers of the company. “We believe we have succeeded in optimizing our development process via fundamental technologies including our 3D scanning system, lighting and shading, which allowed us to minimize additional costs while achieving high-quality development,” they marked down.

Although the budget of Resident Evil 7 has not transpired, we do know that its programming has been in production for some time within Capcom. In any case, after the 2 million downloads of its special demonstration, it seems that waiting and investment have raised enough anticipation.

Resident Evil 7 will be released on January 24 on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. We will be offered a first-person adventure centered on horror, but as its creators highlighted, the title will not bet on the supernatural element.
