It was a surprise when Capcom confirmed that the production of a remake of Resident Evil 2 is initiated – the company had recognized the demand of the fans of the classic game of 1998, but until the official announcement, it was just a dream.

Now, the producer of this remake, Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, revealed the direction of the project, while giving out some details of what is being taken into account by the team in the production of Resident Evil 2 Remake.

“I don’t think there’s much meaning in simply saying things like ‘Yes, I’m confident we can recapture the feeling of the original’, working hard on the game at the moment and there are some reasons why I think we can recapture the spirit of the first game,” said Hirabayashi in an interview with VideoGamer.

“The first game’s remake is held up as proof that a remaster can recapture the original game,” he said, “and as it so happens, the RE GameCube remake was my first project at Capcom. I was able to learn from more experienced colleagues and see with my own eyes how they translated their efforts into such a masterpiece that built on an already well-received game.”

He goes on to say that Resident Evil 2 was the first title in the franchise he played, and that although each player has his own experience, he remembers how it felt the first time and seeks to pass that to the fans again. “The work is progressing on the game and all I can do is ask the fans to wait patiently and excited.”

Hirabayashi did not reveal any more details of Resident Evil 2 remake, but commented briefly on the feedback received from Resident Evil 6 and that this will influence the design choices of its production. “Every title brings with it learning experiences,” he added, “and of course I saw a lot of the feedback on Resident Evil 6 and have taken on board everything I’ve heard from the fans about the game and I want to show you what it taught me with through the next experience I’ll be bringing to you.”

Resident Evil 2 Remake still has no release date and no information on what platforms it will be launched.
