According to comments from Sony, the company has no plans to launch more updates to its console, the PlayStation 4, as they feel very comfortable with the alignment systems that they have at this time.
During an interview with The Guardian, the head of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Andrew House, said that there will be no changes to their systems in the distant future. “We think that for a really substantial period of time this is the PlayStation 4 lineup [the PS4, PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro]. We are very comfortable with that,” he said.
Thus, statements of House invite us to think that Sony will not release a new system to compete with Microsoft Project Scorpio, a system that will arrive in late 2017.
Previously, companies have commented that their new systems do not indicate a new generation of consoles, just looking to upgrade to 4K resolution and give more power to developers to deliver better products.
Moreover, House said that PS4 Pro is designed to compete with PC, not Xbox. “I saw some data that really influenced me,” he said. “It suggested that there’s a dip mid-console lifecycle where the players who want the very best graphical experience will start to migrate to PC, because that’s obviously where it’s to be had.”
“We wanted to keep those people within our eco-system by giving them the very best and very highest [performance quality]. So the net result of those thoughts was PlayStation 4 Pro – and, by and large, a graphical approach to game improvement.”
As you know, the PS4 Pro will have a faster processing speed, superior image quality, 1TB hard drive and dual power GPU of PS4. However, this console will not have Blu-ray player to 4K.
PS4 Pro will debut on November 10 for $399 USD.
