PlayStation 4 Most Wanted Games of 2019

The 2019 of PlayStation 4, among some confirmations and some uncertainty, could finally bring to our shelves highly anticipated productions, which the public has been waiting for a long (long) time. In the midst of products whose release date has already been made official, such as Days Gone, in fact, many titles currently stand without a precise launch window, including the inevitable The Last of Us Part II and Ghost of Tsushima. In our list, therefore, there will also be some space for games that could not see the light in 2019: but the possibility of discovering so much new information is enough to allow us to dream big, with the hope of experiencing a vintage that can be truly explosive.

The Last of Us 2

The PlayStation / Naughty Dog duo would suffice as a synonym of guarantee, but the first appearances of The Last of Us Part II was confirmed by Druckmann and partners’ ambitious plans. A level of interaction that could potentially upset the medium, a wealth of fine details and above all a story that seems to focus on the darker and brighter sides of human survival. Because when the world is forced to face an apocalypse the real monsters are not just the infected ones.

Wolfenstein: Youngblood

Youngblood is a spin-off of the Wolfenstein series that takes hold after nineteen years of the epilogue of New Colossus. The protagonists are the daughters of BJ Blazkowicz, fighters in the service of the Global Resistance against the Nazis, engaged in the search for their missing father. The experience can be lived both in single and, for the first time, entirely in the cooperative. The release is scheduled on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in this year.

Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order

Announced surprisingly during the EA Play event in June with a teaser image, Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order is the new project by Respawn Entertainment, the team responsible for the Titanfall series, acquired by Electronic Arts in 2017. The new Star Wars game is presented as an action adventure (probably in the third person) with a new story set shortly after the end of the events narrated in Star Wars Episode III Revenge of the Sith. Fortunately, to date, the developers have shown some promotional material of Jedi Fallen Order, while the release is expected on all major platforms on November 15, 2019.

Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 is the most ambitious project CD Projekt RED has ever worked on. Set in the same universe as the Cyberpunk 2020 tabletop game, the game reconstructs an entire metropolis inspired by the many forms of film and literary cyberpunk. In addition to an absolutely impressive aesthetic, Cyberpunk 2077 aims to build a living, coherent and credible world, in which the level of interaction could reach heights never even touched by any role play game. There is still no release date, but some think it will arrive by the end of 2019, on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Beyond Good and Evil 2

It is not very likely that Ubisoft’s ambitious open universe will appear in the current generation of consoles, but hope is the last thing to die. Based on a very rich and fascinating mythology, the second chapter of the series sets its story before the events of the debut title, and leads us to explore entire planets and solar systems, composed of ruins, deserts, cities and galaxies to visit freely, without not even a loading screen to interrupt our space wandering. A real space opera that, if all the promises will be kept, could carve out a place among the stars of the video game firmament.

Dying Light 2

Dying Light 2 promises to return all the good impressions of the predecessor, but on an even larger scale. Not only zombies to be sliced with imaginative melee weapons and fast parkour acrobatics, therefore, but also a much more stratified and curated approach to fiction, supervised, among other things, by Chris Avellone himself. In Dying Light 2, the player’s decisions will be reflected clearly in the game world and will help to modify it in depth, thus guaranteeing satisfying and very differentiated experiences between them.

Nioh 2

Following the success of the first Nioh, Team Ninja and Koei-Tecmo announced the second chapter during E3 2018. We know that Nioh 2 wants to be a natural evolution of the predecessor. This time the protagonist can be entirely personalized and will use the powers of the yokai, who will guarantee him an extra gear during the adrenaline-fueled melee encounters. The combat system will be further refined and the difficulty will be carefully balanced, to offer a level of challenge that is always compelling and never frustrating. Before the release, scheduled for 2019, a demo was also published.

Death Stranding

Hideo Kojima’s visionary project has finally got a launch window, as Death Stranding will release on November 8th. A new gameplay trailer was released in which you can see some of the exploration and combat mechanics of this open world video game: the player will be able to use removable ladders and climbing ropes to make his way into the less than welcoming world of Death Stranding. The protagonist is also shown riding a futuristic motorcycle, which gives us the idea of a game worldwide enough to require relying on a vehicle to shorten travel times. Pre-orders for the various editions of Death Stranding are officially open now. What are your expectations for this new ambitious project by Hideo Kojima?

Ghost of Tsushima

Ghost of Tsushima is one of the pillars of Sony Interactive Entertainment for the two-year period 2019/2020 along with Death Stranding and The Last of Us Part 2. Still lacking a launch window, the new game by the authors of inFAMOUS and Sly Cooper is perhaps the most “next-gen” project among those just mentioned and many people bet that Ghost of Tsushima could arrive not only on PlayStation 4/PlayStation 4 Pro but also on PS5. The trailers and gameplay videos released by the developers have allowed us to discover a title taken care of in every respect, with a top-level technical department, a fascinating setting and gameplay capable of satisfying lovers of the genre. Too bad for that launch window apparently still very far.

Control

Directed by the pen of Sam Lake, Control could once again consecrate Remedy to a team of undisputed creative qualities: set in the Federal Bureau of Control building, the title stages disturbing and supernatural atmospheres, trying to vary a genre like that of adventure in the third person. The Finnish software house, therefore, promises a game with a less linear progression which, combining the playful values of the Metroidvania, makes the changeable and interactive scenarios the true protagonist of the adventure. Characterized by spectacular crashes and a highly respected technical division, Control will arrive in 2019 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

Dreams

Dreams is the new, courageous project of Media Molecule, which has evolved the potential of the Little Big Planet editor to create a title in which users can give free rein to their imagination, through a 3D modeling system that will allow them to produce sculptures, short films, music and video games to share with other aspiring artists, under the banner of total freedom. Also compatible with PlayStation VR, Dreams will be released in 2019 on PS4 and PlayStation 4 Pro.

Lost Soul Aside

Initially developed by a single Chinese boy, Lost Soul Aside is a love letter to Japanese role-playing games, in particular to Final Fantasy XV. After noticing Yang Bing’s talent, Sony has decided to support the project and assign it a dedicated team: the game, which offers spectacular and adrenaline-filled combat sequences, should arrive on PlayStation 4 during 2019.

MediEvil Remake

The brave Sir Daniel Fortesque is ready to rise again in 2019 with the remake of the legendary MediEvil. The restoration operation is comparable to that suffered by N.Sane Trilogy of Crash and the Reignited Trilogy of Spyro: a great icon of the past PlayStation is, therefore, preparing to return to the charge with an apparently excellent graphic restyle, which maintains the atmosphere of the original work but re-elaborates it to adapt it to current standards. The Other Ocean Emeryville team meticulously studied every element of the first chapter, in order to recreate an environment that is both familiar and innovative.

DOOM Eternal

Twenty-five years after the first brutal appearance of the Doomguy, the forefather of the old school of the FPS is about to return with the second reboot, giving an epithet that expresses its immortality: DOOM Eternal does not want to be just the violent re-proposal of a historical saga, but the even more furious and hyperkinetic evolution of the predecessor. The new demonic creature signed by id Software, in fact, ensures, thanks to a greater verticality of the settings and a renewed movement system, unprecedented bloody freedom and a multiplayer compartment integrated for the first time with the main campaign.

Wasteland 3

Wasteland 3 aims to improve the predecessor in all aspects, offering a more advanced technical department, a more dynamic combat system and an even more decisive impact on the player’s history. Despite the recent acquisition of inXile Entertainment by Microsoft, the title will also be released on PlayStation 4 as previously established, naturally together with the Xbox One and PC versions. While waiting for a more precise launch window to be defined, the debut of the new Wasteland chapter is set for a generic 2019.

Twin Mirror

The new adventure of Dontnod Entertainment and Bandai Namco will debut in 2019 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. Twin Mirror tells the story of Samuel, a 33-year-old investigative journalist who returns to his city for an old friend’s funeral. When one morning he wakes up with a bloody shirt without any memory of what has happened, it will be up to the player to investigate and make difficult choices to try to trace the truth.

Babylon’s Fall

Platinum Games and Square Enix return to collaborate with Babylon’s Fall, a new IP whose membership is still unknown, and whose release is currently scheduled for a generic 2019 on PS4 and PC. At the moment we can only rely on the announcement trailer in which it is possible to observe different artwork, the chronology of some important events for the game world and a brief cutscene with the final moments of a bloody battle between two knights in armor.

Concrete Genie

Concrete Genie is presented as a blank canvas on which to pour the artistic flair of each player. The little adventure by Pixelopus tells the story of Ash, a boy struggling with a pack of callous bullies and a dreary city ready to welcome his magical brushstrokes. Offering a progression, apparently quite accessible and a “palette” just as easy to use, the title seems to fit perfectly even to the less demanding part of the video game audience, eager to fade those gray walls with its own imagination.
