Phil Spencer admits that Xbox One X is “not for everybody”
On November 7, Xbox One X will hit the market and all the guesswork and forecasts will take over and finally, it will be possible to see the sales performance of the console and the type of players who will buy it.
In this season of sales Microsoft will have 2 consoles in the market: Xbox One S and Xbox One X and Phil Spencer, boss of the brand, revealed to GameSpot his opinion about what he expects for both the models.
In an interview conducted by GameSpot, Xbox boss Phil Spencer revealed Microsoft’s expectations of the 2 consoles available in the market for this holiday season. “Xbox One S will be the market leader for us. It’s the more affordable console. It plays all the same games. It will be the console that sells.”
Spencer later referred to what they expect for Xbox One X: “On the other hand, Xbox One X is focused on players who want the best experience on consoles. “Whether you’re on a 1080p TV or a 4K TV, you’re going to have a great experience. But it’s not for everybody. It’s like when we built the Xbox One Elite controller, we didn’t try to say to everybody, ‘If you need an extra controller, go buy the Elite controller.’ We sold a ton of those controllers. We know in the gaming segment, there are a lot of people who play games casually and there’s also people where gaming is their number one hobby.
“Their number one form of entertainment, and we want to give them the very best experience. I’ve played games in true 4K with HDR, and they look fantastic. But it doesn’t mean everybody has to do that. So we’re giving gamers a choice. Whether we’ve pushed the innovation too far? It’s hard to do that with gamers. I guess we’ll see; I feel very confident in the product we have coming to market.”
In this way, Microsoft has made its position clear on Xbox One X, considering the console as one more option for players, something that Albert Penello had already said, who said that it will not be an intermediate point or a generational leap.
Now that this has been defined, what do you think? Will Xbox One X be able to survive the hype and this market strategy?
