One Piece: Great Pirate Colosseum was announced on May 20, and it will not take long before a release date is revealed. Indeed, we have just learned via Amazon Japan and Rakuten that the game will be available on Nintendo 3DS on 21 September in Japan and is developed by Arc System Works (Guilty Gear, BlazBlue, Persona 4 Arena, Jake Hunter, Chase: Unsolved Cases Investigation Division – Distant Memories, etc).
The first copies of the title will contain codes to unlock supporting characters (Edward Newgate, Marco and Jozu), an object that will be useful for the Create a Pirate Crew mode and a download code to obtain a special theme for HOME menu of the 3DS. Amazon Japan will also offer another item that has not yet been announced.
One Piece: Great Pirate Colosseum is an action game and combat in 2D with 23 playable characters and over 80 supporting characters. According to Arc System Works, the title will feature noisy action scenes and simple controls with buttons to perform combos, while retaining the sense of “excitement” that could already be found in other video games Series.
There will also be a story mode where the player can navigate through the world to meet characters from the One Piece universe and create a powerful team of pirates. Beating rival heroes, the prize money (rewards given to crew members) will increase considerably. Finally, the developers have also created an online battle mode that can be used to fight against players located throughout the country to increase its level of “Bounty” and aim for the first class of the classification.
