Miitomo, the first mobile application developed by Nintendo, will shut down on May 9, according to a publication on the official website of the company.
The application, which was initially considered as a mobile game, debuted in March 2016. Nintendo tried to create a community with this initiative, where players used their Mii to interact with other users. This space allows you to ask questions, participate in mini-games and use different outfits inspired by the company’s franchises.
Therefore, after just over 2 years, Miitomo will come to an end. The application gained popularity the first few days, however, it failed to captivate users and was quickly forgotten. Some pointed out that the features were not attractive and others mentioned that it lacked optimization.
The page of Miitomo revealed that it will happen once the service comes to an end.
1. If you launch the app after the end of service on 5/9, you’ll see a message informing you that service has ended. You will no longer be able to use any of the app’s features.
2. You will no longer be able to see your answers or messages in the app.
3. You will no longer be able to use items you’ve obtained in the app, such as clothing items, wallpapers, or posters.
4. You can transfer your Mii™ character to your Nintendo Account by linking it to Miitomo. (Its personality and other information will not be carried over.)
5. Sidekick Mii characters will be deleted. You can keep Sidekick Mii characters by saving them as a QR Code before the end of service on 5/9/2018 12:00 AM (PDT). They can then be transferred to Mii Maker on the Nintendo 3DS family of systems or the Wii U console.
6. You will not be able to view Miifotos, including Miifotos you have shared to your social media channels. If you want to save any Miifotos, you must save them to your smart device before 5/9/2018 12:00 AM (PDT).
7. Miitomo- themed icons and clothing items used in your Nintendo Account or the Super Mario Run™ game will not display after the service has ended.
Also, Nintendo planned some activities to dismiss Miitomo. From this moment, users will get 2000 coins and 5 tickets every day they log in. In addition, the company invited players to share photos on Twitter that reflect the best memories of Miitomo; the best ones will be shared on the official website of the application. Finally, until the end of the service, all questions on the Answer Channel and all the daily questions will deal with Miitomo’s memories.
In the fall of 2016, Miitomo managed to register more than 15 million unique users, but according to Tatsumi Kimishima, the president of Nintendo, the application fell short of revenue. “The title has not had a big impact from the point of view of earnings, but the relevance has been as great as we had hoped,” he said at the time.
