Nintendo Switch Uses Nvidia Tegra technology

Nvidia has confirmed that its technology will be central part of the recently announced Nintendo Switch. Specifically, the new console will feature a modified processor to run high performance gaming in portable manner, and also have development tools optimized for the platform.

In the video revelation of the hybrid device of Nintendo Switch before known as Nintendo NX, the Japanese company did not reveal many details about the innards of their new and rather unusual hardware. But shortly after the announcement, Nvidia revealed that the machine uses a custom version of its Tegra processor.

This probably means that the Switch uses the Pascal architecture, a GPU in the GTX 10 series.

Through its official blog, Nvidia shared the following details: “Nintendo Switch is powered by the performance of the custom Tegra processor. The high-efficiency scalable processor includes an NVIDIA GPU based on the same architecture as the world’s top-performing GeForce gaming graphics cards.”

“The Nintendo Switch’s gaming experience is also supported by fully custom software, including a revamped physics engine, new libraries, advanced game tools and libraries. NVIDIA additionally created new gaming APIs to fully harness this performance. The newest API, NVN, was built specifically to bring lightweight, fast gaming to the masses,” the company added.

Finally, the manufacturer said: “The gameplay is further enhanced by hardware-accelerated video playback and custom software for audio effects and rendering.”
