As many of you will recall, in March last year Microsoft canceled the development of Fable Legends, and shortly afterward also closed Lionhead Studios, the historical team responsible for the series and Black & White.
The franchise has not completely disappeared from circulation since Fable Fortune came out a few months ago. It is a collectible card game that has been developed by an external studio with the support of Microsoft, which holds the rights to the franchise.
Shannon Loftis, head of the team who is responsible for publishing the first-party title on Xbox, recently intervened on the matter of the future of the series. In an interview with Gamespot at PAX Aus, she said the following: “Fable is very near and dear to my heart. Actually, one of the primary reasons [I moved to England] was to work with the team on Fable II. Fable Fortune is now out, the card game. We love the IP. I can’t talk right now about whether we’re doing anything with it or not, but if I ever get the chance to go back to Albion … ”
Loftis has been rather vague, but the words of the executive mean that the franchise is not dead and given the impression that Microsoft simply wants to set the IP aside for some time waiting for better times.
