Konami admits development of Mission 51 for MGS V: The Phantom Pain was cancelled

One of the great controversies of the past year was the end of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Mission 51 and its alleged third chapter. After several months the issue revived thanks to the official Twitter account of Metal Gear that admitted that the development of the last mission of the game was canceled.

MGS V The Phantom Pain Mission 51 Cancelled

You may be unaware of the situation, so I’ll explain it here; but yes, I must warn you that if you have not played The Phantom Pain then it is better to stop reading because this news contains spoilers.

Upon completion of The Phantom Pain, many players were left with more questions than answers, since missions after that seemed to fill in, the game left many loose ends. One was them was the story of Eli and the children that Venom Snake saved in Africa who escaped from the base of the Diamond Dogs with Sahelanthropus.

Those who bought the Collector’s Edition of the game they discovered that the Blu-ray bonus coming in it contained footage of the Mission 51, which is called Kingdom of the Flies. In the video, we see that this mission would have taken control of Venom Snake, who was traveling to an island in search of children.

Thus, the official account of Metal Gear on social network confirmed that the Mission 51 “is additional story content that was cancelled before development finished, but its definitely not the ending.” With the above it is clear that what is at stake is the end of The Phantom Pain and – for obvious reasons – it is unlikely in the future going to receive new story content.

The official account of Metal Gear is answering questions of the game to promote Metal Gear Solid V: The Definitive Experience. The package was confirmed yesterday including Ground Zeroes, The Phantom Pain and Metal Gear Online for those who have not got their hands to play the last Metal Gear of Hideo Kojima.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain came in September last year on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
