A Way Out: Josef Fares Defends His Outburst On The Oscars At TGA 2017
“F*ck the Oscars!” exclaimed the director of A Way Out, Josef Fares, during the presentation of a new trailer for the game at The Game Awards.
The next day, the guys at Polygon reached Josef Fares for his comments. Fares has indicated that his intention was to use the Oscars to “illustrate” what, in his opinion, is a complex of inferiority intrinsic to the video game industry with respect to established art forms, such as movies and television series.
In that sense, Josef Fares stated the following: “I can’t change who I am. It’s very hard to control. When I get excited, it’s like — it’s hard to control. Like, it’s almost like: In my head, I want to say something, but my mouth, it kind of, like, takes out everything… I mean, I would probably do the same thing now.”
“It’s not that I have anything against [the] Oscars. But there’s a lot of talk about, like, you know, ‘This is like the Oscars.’ Like, the Oscars, the Game Awards, ‘we’re trying to be like the Oscars.’ I’m like, come on, man. I mean, it’s time for people to understand that games are, like, a serious art,” Fares concluded.
A Way Out will be available on March 23, 2018. It is an adventure title with a cooperative component between two characters (both online and split-screen) who escape from a prison.
