Hacker Sued By Sony for Selling Jailbroken PlayStation 4

Piracy is less common in the consoles of the current generation but that does not mean that it does not exist. In fact, there are groups that invest time in finding ways to run pirated games or unauthorized software. As you can imagine, video game companies dislike this situation and do not hesitate to take legal actions when appropriate. A recent example of this is the case of a subject who faces a demand from Sony to sell PlayStation 4 consoles with a jailbreak.

As reported by Kotaku, on Friday, October 5 Sony filed a lawsuit in the District Court of California in the United States against Eric David Scales. In it they accuse him of having an account on Ebay called Blackcloak13 in which he sells consoles that can be used to hack content. In case this is real, Scales would be violating the Copyright Law of the Digital Age.

In the lawsuit, Sony asks the court to do what is necessary for Scales to stop jailbreaks of PlayStation 4 consoles or stop selling the modified hardware. In addition, they are seeking to deliver all the consoles that have been affected and that have not yet been sold. This with the aim of destroying them. Finally, they are asking for compensation for an unspecified amount.

According to Sony, it was in April of this year that Blackcloak13 published a sale announcement for a modified PlayStation 4 console. Apparently, in the promised delivery the console included 63 games, among which were God of War, Everybody’s Golf and Helldivers. The company says that this information is real since it bought the console to inspect it. Then it acquired another console from the same vendor to discover his identity.

And you, what do you think about this situation? Do you think Sony will take legal action against other people who do the same? Tell us in the comments below.
