Grand Theft Auto V Ships More Than 90 Million Copies
It is not strange to see Grand Theft Auto V at the top of the charts of popularity in the United States and the United Kingdom, so we doubt you will be surprised when we say that it is one of the most popular games in history. Exactly how many copies has this game shipped? 90 million, according to the Take-Two data.
In its most recent financial report, the company that owns Rockstar Games shared this sales achievement and pointed out that it is thanks to the expansion of the current generation platforms. Keep in mind that, by November of last year, the title had shipped 85 million copies, so it sold 5 million more in a couple of months.
To put things in perspective, Grand Theft Auto V has shipped more copies than titles such as Wii Sports
(82,830,000 copies sold), Super Mario Bros (40,240,000 copies sold), Pokémon Red & Blue (31,380,000 copies sold) and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (30,000,000 sold). In addition, each day is closer to the records imposed by Tetris (170,000,000) and Minecraft (144,000,000).
Later, Take-Two said that 2017 was the best year in the history of Grand Theft Auto Online and that last December was the month with the highest number of active users. In addition, the company mentioned that it is its biggest contributor to recurring consumer spending, without specifying how much income they have generated thanks to their microtransactions. As you can imagine, all of the above means that Rockstar Games will continue to support it.
The success of Grand Theft Auto V was one of the main factors by which video games generated more than $100 billion during 2017, as it was one of the best sellers in Europe and the United States.
Grand Theft Auto V is available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
