Rumor: Google Is Planning ‘Yeti’ Game Platform To Take on PlayStation and Xbox
Last February, a report from The Information revealed that Google is working on a video game platform that will work with a subscription model and in which players will enjoy the games via streaming. Today, anonymous sources have offered more information about this project and everything indicates that the American company will launch an aggressive strategy to shape its structure.
A few moments ago, Jason Schreier, Kotaku journalist, made public information obtained from various sources around the video game platform of Google, which is currently called the Yeti and as far as is known could work with the Chromecast device.
As revealed by 5 sources, Google will seek to support its video game platform through the acquisition of various companies and studios, a strategy that is considered as aggressive and whose objective would be to make high-level purchases. At the same time, sources say that Google met this year with various developers and companies at events such as Game Developers Conference (GDC) and E3 2018, where it proposed the project and set its sights on the acquisition of entire studios.
On the other hand, the information refers that Google is aware of what is involved in a video game service via streaming in terms of access to Internet speeds required and in that sense, the company could launch a new strategy to expand the coverage of its Google Fiber initiative, which currently provides a high-speed connection to cities in the United States such as Atlanta, Austin, Kansas City and Nashville.
