Video Games Industry Generated More Than $100 Billion in 2017
2017 was a great year for the video games industry and several sectors generated important revenues, which are beginning to be revealed to account for the successes achieved. In that sense, a SuperData report shows us what it was last year for the industry.
The 2017 report of the SuperData analysis firm revealed that, in general terms, the video games industry generated $108 billion thanks to the performance of its different sectors for 12 months. In this regard, the mobile game was the sector that generated the most revenue with $59.2 billion, followed by PC with $33 billion and, thirdly, the consoles, which generated $8.3 billion.
In relation to other types of experiences that were integrated into the analysis of the industry, everything involving VR and AR generated $4 billion, while the content in video games obtained $3.2 billion and esports generated $756 million.
As for PCs and mobiles, free-to-play games generated the most revenue, with $82 billion, an amount reached thanks to the operations carried out by 2,500 million players worldwide. Regarding the consoles and their games, the western market is the most important because it recorded revenues of $4.2 billion, followed by Europe with $3.1 billion.
As for games, the SuperData report refers that the most lucrative titles of 2017 were the eternal Grand Theft Auto V and Call of Duty: WWII. In that sense, the title of Activision joined Call of Duty: Black Ops III and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare to consider the series of war games as the one that generated the most income during 2017.
