Pachter: First-Party on Game Pass Will Not Affect Xbox Sales

Microsoft took its fans by surprise yesterday, announcing that its first-party titles will be available on Xbox Game Pass from the day of its release. Given the importance of the news, several specialists have begun to give their opinion on the matter. One of them is the analyst Michael Pachter, who believes that the company made a good decision.

According to the member of Wedbush Securities, the arrival of this catalog to Xbox Game Pass is a great way to offer quality content, especially since it will be available at an affordable price: $9.99 USD per month. On the other hand, Pachter believes that this strategy will not change the flow of sales of the company with respect to consoles.

“I don’t think it means anything for console sales. It’s a clever way to give consumers access to a lot of content for a reasonable price, and nothing more than that. For the price of two new games per year ($120), a Game Pass subscriber can play all Microsoft first-party content (at least two AAA titles) plus 100 more games,” the analyst said in an interview with GamingBolt.

Pachter doubts that the arrival of important titles to the subscription service negatively affects Microsoft’s finances and considers that this change in Xbox Game Pass will bring long-term benefits.

“Theoretically, someone could sign up for a month and quit, but the majority of people sign up and remain members for at least a year,” Patcher concluded to clarify his point about possible losses that Microsoft may have.

Everything indicates that the company will continue to bet on this service. Satya Nadella, Microsoft’s executive director, said they will work to make Xbox Game Pass their video game Netflix. If you are a user of this service, take into account that next month you will not be able to play titles like Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and WWE 2K16.
