EA: Need for Speed Heat Can Be Played Completely Offline

During the Opening Night Live hosted by Geoff Keighley, at Gamescom 2019, we had the opportunity to see the first gameplay footage of Need for Speed Heat, a new car racing game from Electronic Arts and Ghost Games. At that juncture, however, a doubt remained for us all: will the game require you to always be connected, will it be an “always online” title?

The answer comes directly from the game’s Producer and Lead Designer who ensures that – no, it will not be mandatory to play online. It will be possible to live the whole experience offline and in single player. That said, Ghost Games explains that it’s highly recommended to share your game with other players, as their presence can be very useful.

The name of the game “heat” indicates a game mechanic, a “heat system” that represents how much chaos we can create in the city. The greater this value is, the more aggressive the police will be, trying to bring us down with every means. Each player will have his own “heat level”: a good tactic, therefore, will be to find another player with a level higher than ours and make sure that the police shift their attention to the driver, since he will consider him more dangerous and therefore a priority. Maybe it’s not very honest behavior, but it’s a way to surprise other players (and be surprised) by adding a little more spice to the action.

Need for Speed Heat will therefore not be an always-online game, but the online component will be an integral part of the experience imagined by the developers of Ghost Games.

We remind you that the game of Electronic Arts will be available starting November 8, 2019 on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Tell us, what do you think of the game?
