According to reports, Destiny 2 will become free-to-play in September with the launch of the next expansion, Shadowkeep. The new free version of the game will be called New Light and will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC via Steam (the title will then move away from Battle.net).
In the last hours, Bungie has revealed more details regarding the free-to-play version and cross-save functionality. The latter will involve the transfer of save data, but without any licenses: in other words, any expansion will have to be purchased on each platform to be played. Next September, an update will add a new entry to the Bungie profile, which will allow you to manage your save data on different platforms. However, there will be no possibility to unify the accounts.
Instead, it will be possible to transfer all purchases made on Battle.net to Steam: any user who owns the title on the Activision Blizzard platform, in fact, will be able to transfer their purchases for free on a Steam profile, including the silver pieces purchased.
As for cross-play, the Bellevue software house stated that it intends to support it but considers it a secondary component. In short, at the moment there are other priorities.
In this regard, it has been confirmed that PC and Google Stadia users of Destiny 2 will not be able to play together. The Stadia product edition will, therefore, have its own user base.
For clarity, Destiny 2 Year 1 includes the basic campaign of the game and the two DLCs, The Curse of Osiris and The Bellicose Mind. It is, therefore, a very interesting offer, especially for new players.
