Death Stranding is presented as one of the most anticipated PlayStation 4 games. It comes from the hand of Hideo Kojima and his new studio, Kojima Productions, and we already know when you can read the first reviews of the title: it is set for November 1 at 12:00 AM PST, just one week before the launch of the game, scheduled for November 8.
Given the expectation and originality that Death Stranding has distilled in its promotional material, Kojima’s new work is expected to receive the warm embrace of critics. Sony seems to be very confident and that is why it has given the press a whole week to publish its review.
If we compare it with other exclusives of Sony, the analysis of God of War were published on April 12 and the game was released on the 20th (8 days before), almost identical to Death Stranding. The reviews of Marvels Spider-Man were published 3 days before the launch, those of Horizon: Zero Dawn 9 days before, and those of Days Gone 1 day before it was released, so it depends on each game.
The review embargo that Death Stranding has received is far from that enjoyed by Concrete Genie, another Sony exclusive, whose date to publish the review was October 8, coinciding with the same day of launch.
On the other hand, as Hideo Kojima himself has indicated, the game requires a lot of time to complete. It is likely that Sony is also granting this margin to allow critics to take a deep look at the game before publishing their reviews.
Death Stranding will release on November 8 on PS4.
