Dark Souls 2 Hit 200 Million Total Deaths Worldwide; 42 Deaths Per Second on Consoles

Most of the time we talk about a certain game or console that reached a significant number of sales or that some player or players fulfilled an achievement and recorded an important and transcendental score. However, the world of Dark Souls 2 is the opposite and it is the title that celebrates the number of times it has ended with the courage of the users.

Yesterday, the user of Reddit “KaeJS” reported that during his session of Dark Souls 2, a notification appeared that reported on the number of total deaths that have happened in the game after more than 3 years since its launch: 200 million.

The number of deaths in battle in the second installment of the series involves all its versions and all their deaths worldwide, so many players of PS3, Xbox 360, PC, PS4 and Xbox One have contributed to this achievement, although not of the way they wanted.

Few video game franchises have achieved the recognition and popularity of Dark Souls in the last decade. In fact, the saga of From Software did not need ten years. Demon’s Souls was launched in 2009 and since then the titles of the Dark Souls series began to arrive, which has become a benchmark and one of the most beloved franchises of all time in video games.

The difficulty and the challenge are some of the main attractions of a saga that every day it has more followers despite having finished after its third numbered title. Maybe Dark Souls 2, in that sense, is the least loved title of the franchise (for not having involved Hidetaka Miyazaki in it) and also the most different, but there is a fact that shows that it was as much or more successful than some previous titles.

We are also referring to the number of deaths that occurred between the characters controlled by the users of the game at its launch window. Dark Souls 2 players on console died a total of 150,443 times per hour, which means 2,507 deaths per minute and 42 deaths per second.

Dark Souls II debuted in 2014 on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
