Crystal Dynamics: Marvel’s Avengers Is Not Based on the MCU or Comic Book Games
It is no secret that the new game of Square Enix dedicated to the Avengers, Marvel’s Avengers, has not exactly impressed the fans, especially from the visual point of view. Beyond discussions on the technical quality of the product, what has left many fans dumbfounded is the lack of faces and voices of the actors who played the characters in the Marvel movies. It is not strange that it did not happen (due to special agreements or to avoid excessive costs) but nevertheless MCU fans did not like it.
However, Crystal Dynamics, a developer of Marvel’s Avengers, does not agree with this type of comparison. The developers have emphasized that they appreciate feedback, but that they firmly believe in their game and in what they are doing. “We are not making an MCU game, or a comic book game specifically, we are making an Avengers game and it’s for Avengers fans,” these are the words of Noah Huges, creative director of the studio.
He went on to say: “It was important for us to be bringing to life in gaming the vast history of the Avengers. And I think the MCU is such an amazing accomplishment, that it’s hard not to recognize that as a centerpiece of the Marvel universe and of the Avengers. But it really isn’t the sum total of the Avengers. So part of the fun we have is to draw inspiration from the comics as well, and bring things to life in ways that people haven’t seen before and all of that.”
Huges then stated that this is an excellent time for the game as, by now, the films are finished and now is the time for the game.
Remember that Marvel’s Avengers will release on May 15 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and Google Stadia.
