Capcom says Resident Evil 7 and P.T. comparisons were simply coincidental
Masachika Kawata, producer of Resident Evil 7, and Koushi Nakanishi, the director, have ensured that all comparisons between PT and the seventh installment of the saga of zombie game of Capcom, Resident Evil 7, were simply coincidental.
“When PT surfaced we were already into development and we were surprised to see it,” Kawata said. “I’m worried about how my jokes come across but I hear Brits like black humour. So, out of everyone, we were the most relieved when PT didn’t come out,” he laughed and jokingly said.
“We were already using a first-person perspective before anyone saw PT, so it wasn’t as if we saw that and decided to do the same,” Nakanishi said.
“It was already happening, so were surprised and – seeing PT and the reaction, it was a signpost for us that it was a good direction to be going in.”
As for the fact there are corridors and such, well, we had that in Resident Evil 1 in 1996. For us it’s about going back to our roots. All of these things were going to be in the game.”
The next game in the series, Resident Evil 7, was revealed at E3 this year and is much more oriented towards terror. In the demo available for PlayStation 4, all the action takes place in first person in a haunted house full of mysteries. According to Capcom, all the characters in the game will be unpublished.
Resident Evil 7 will be released on January 24 on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Its demo is only available for users of PlayStation Plus with a PS4.
