Treyarch: Call of Duty Black Ops 4 “Single Player Mode Is Only Missing At This Moment In Time”
The decision of Activision and Treyarch to remove the traditional single-player campaign from Call of Duty Black Ops 4 has enormously divided fans. Although the statistics are clear – there are fewer and fewer players – the discussions on the web are really on.
This, however, may not represent a definitive farewell to mode, judging by the words of Yale Miller, the Senior Producer of Treyarch. In an interview with Daily Star he said the following:
“[The single player mode] is only missing at this moment in time. I really think with every game we make, we finish that title and then we ask ‘what is it fans are gonna love the most?’ If that’s another traditional campaign, then we’ll make another traditional campaign.”
Miller has made it clear that the latter is absent only at “this moment in time”, but its eventual return to a future chapter of the series is in no way excluded regardless. Call of Duty Black Ops 4 represents a real break from the past, and its impact on the public is still to be evaluated.
The multiplayer has been deeply modified, with the introduction of specialists and a new (for the series) battle royale mode called Blackout. At the launch, there will be three Zombie campaigns, which will in some sense compensate for the lack of the traditional mode because they can also be played in single player.
Please note that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will be released on October 12 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. On the PC platform, it will be launched exclusively on Battle.net, another profound change from the past.
