AMD Radeon Adrenalin Edition 18.1.1 Alpha Driver Available Now, Fixes Crashing Issues With DirectX 9 Games
As we have learned in recent hours, AMD seems less affected by the microprocessor bugs, the well-known Meltdown and Specter, compared to Intel. Even the Sunnyvale house has had its (small) slip at the beginning of the year.
In recent days, a bug has emerged of the latest graphics drivers that prevented starting several old DirectX 9 games. At first, it seemed that AMD was not going to solve the problem, but then the boss of the driver team reassured everyone by promising a remedy.
A remedy that has come in the past few hours and is called Radeon Software Adrenalin Edition 18.1.1 Alpha. The players who are still at home from work/school to enjoy their well-deserved holidays and want to brush up on an old title, need only to download this driver to solve the problems.
AMD has also mentioned in its notes that this driver, being an Alpha version, has not been fully tested and is not recommended for general use.
In short, if you have the need to start an old title that with the previous drivers had stopped running, then install them at your own risk, otherwise you will need to wait for some more final releases of this driver that will contain this fix.
