Nvidia, Nintendo and the Chinese online platform iQiyi announced their partnership to launch Wii and GameCube games on Nvidia Shield. These ports will run at 1080p, although it is not clear if they will have graphics improvements.
Some of the titles that will be available on this platform will be The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, New Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Galaxy and, soon, Metroid Prime. A great offer for Shield users.
The platform will cost ¥1499 RMB ($227 USD) and each game will cost ¥68 RMB ($10 USD). However, these data will only be useful if you live in China because there is absolutely no plan to bring this proposal to the West. On the other hand, it is surprising that Nintendo continues to explore other platforms, at least in Asia.
This is a good opportunity for Nintendo. After 15 years, China lifted the console ban in 2015, so Sony and Microsoft launched PlayStation 4 and Xbox One respectively. Nintendo, meanwhile, has not brought Switch, but the partnership with Nvidia should be enough for the moment. Another important detail is that the Ministry of Culture of China must approve each game that is published in the country.
But do not be sad, because Switch is also available in our territory. The console has had a good reception and the most successful game of the season is Super Mario Odyssey.
