Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that the Gran Turismo franchise has passed 80.4 million copies sold worldwide, a figure that includes data from all the episodes published on PlayStation, PS, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PSP.
Kazunori Yamauchi, the father of the series, said he was extremely satisfied and happy with the results achieved and said that he will continue to work hard to realize the next episodes of the saga. In that sense, Yamauchi added the following:
“It’s hard to imagine that 80.4 million copies of Gran Turismo have been played during the 20-year history of the franchise. It makes me really happy to think of the immense amount of time that has been poured into playing our games! I would like to express my sincere thanks and appreciation for the community, as well as our close friends and supporters within the automotive industry. We would like to continue our efforts in achieving the best possible expression and creation of cars and scenery, as well as bringing the highest level of excitement and fun through racing in the years to come.”
Sony did not disclose the sales figures of the individual games, however, on the ResetERA forum, it emerged that Gran Turismo Sport could have sold 3.4 million units.
The data was obtained by analyzing a previous press release from Sony in which there was the talk of 77 million copies sold for the GT series, all this before the launch of Gran Turismo Sport, it is therefore deduced that the most recent chapter may have sold 3.4 million copies in six months.
