Over the past few years, Ubisoft has distinguished itself by investing in numerous new IPs, such as The Division, For Honor and the next Skulls and Bones. Well, this E3 2019 could not be outdone by hosting the world premiere of the new Gods & Monsters.
Gods & Monsters is the new game developed by Ubisoft Quebec, the well-known authors of the acclaimed Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, which provides a game format similar to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the undisputed killer game of Nintendo Switch. Only a few images were broadcasted on the Ubisoft stage thanks to the teaser that highlights the game settings.
And if you missed the Greece of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey so much, know that even in Gods & Monsters there will be tales of Greek gods and heroes… “When heroes need help, they turn to the gods. When the gods need help, they turn to heroes.” Check the first trailer of the game below.
The story tells of a forgotten hero named Phoenix left to save the honor of the Greek gods and to free the Isle of the Blessed, on a journey that will take her to the descent into hell to beat the dangerous mythological creatures captained by Typhon. In addition to strong customization, Ubisoft’s new IP promises heroic deeds and a unique journey packed with enemies and dungeons to explore.
During an interview that took place shortly after the presentation, Jonathan Dumont, the game’s creative director, admitted the closeness to the Nintendo title, although the new IP takes some different stylistic choices. “It’s flattering that we can be compared to that, but from a storytelling point of view it’s going to be a very unique adventure,” Dumont explained. “The abilities will change, as well as the scope of how it blows up. It is influenced a lot more by Odyssey in that sense mechanically. The fact that we can choose and create our own character and customize it as well, there’s quite a bit that will make it its own.”
The Greek myth mixed with the Zelda model, continues the excellent research conducted by the team to make Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Gods & Monsters is a game older than Odyssey, and enjoys a pictorial style foreign to that of the last chapter of Assassin’s Creed, also departing from the figure of the hero, admittedly the strongest of all time.
One of the producers Marc-Alexis Côté, revealed that the title was conceived and developed in a fairly short time by the Ubisoft team, thanks to a series of tools perfected over the last ten years of development in the videogames world. In fact, even the developers claim that the game has been in progress since the end of last year and, despite being scheduled for next February release, Dumont presented the title to a small number of people last Sunday, using only one controller connected to a phone and, using the Google Stadia service, played a development version of the game.
According to the trailer, Gods & Monsters will be released on February 25th 2020 on PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
